I began attending my neighborhood association meetings with the intent of building a stronger connection to my community. Place-making was the topic of discussion one evening and it sparked the idea to create a logo for our neighborhood. Portsmouth sits in between 2 more high profile neighborhoods with established identities - I pitched my idea to the Chairperson and we were off and running; collaboratively brainstorming ideas around what the cornerstones and values represent its identity.
Cultural diversity, natural areas, parks and community were the pillars we landed on, ultimately the more conservative of the options were chosen. Overall, it was a wonderful experience to volunteer and make an impact directly in my community.
